What is a Restorative Process?

A Restorative Process is about restoration between a person who has upset or offended another and the victim of that behaviour or action. It is a process that can be used in many situations - it not just for use for the courts.

It is about restoring for both - for the offending person to take responsibility for his /her actions, and to explain what was happening at the time and any reasons for the behaviour.

It also gives an opportunity for the victim to tell the person what the impact of the behaviour was upon him/herself. She or he also has the opportunity to clarify and ask questions - to perhaps understand "Why me?"The ultimate outcome of this process is resolution between the participants.

Hawkes Bay Restorative Justice promotes that Restorative Processes are applied in many situations throughout the Community.
